Dimitar Berbatov has urged Manchester United not to sign Antoine Griezmann in January.

The Red Devils are expected to be busy in the winter window. Soon-to-be minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is likely to want to make a splash once he takes control of footballing operations at the club and bringing in a sparkly new player or two would do just that.

As such, the rumour mill is already whirring and reports suggest Griezmann, who has been in fine form for Atletico Madrid this season, scoring 12 goals in 16 games in all competitions, is high on United's shopping list. Berbatov, however, thinks signing the Frenchman would be a big mistake.

The Bulgarian, who scored 56 goals in four years at Old Trafford, insists Rasmus Hojlund's development would be stunted by the arrival of another centre forward and that since United sunk £70million on the 20-year-old in the summer they ought to do everything in their power to ensure he becomes a success.

"If [Griezmann] comes, then what happens if Hojlund and Griezmann are fit? Griezmann needs to play because he’s Griezmann, so is Hojlund not playing then?" the Bulgarian told Betfair. "If Hojlund doesn’t play, then it’s like, why did you buy him? It would become a mess. I don’t think that transfer will happen."

Hojlund has struggled for goals and form since arriving from Atalanta in July. He's netted five times in 15 games in all competitions, but is yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League after nine matches.
