Coronation Street legend Les Battersby has launched into a tirade about protein ahead of his unexpected career change next year.

Actor Bruce Jones, who played the iconic soap character from 1997 to 2008, is set to make his wrestling debut for Sov Pro Wrestling in Manchester on February 18. And, although his opponent for the event at the Trinity Sports Centre hasn't yet been announced, it seems like Bruce – who is being advertised to appear as Les – is already pumping himself up for the big debut.

In a ranting promo video, filmed in Wetherspoons in Rhyl, North Wales and posted on social media, he said: “My names Les, they call me Les because that's who I am, Les Battersby. I am in training, very much training, for Sovereign Pro Wrestling, and you're gonna see me fight some wrestlers.

“At the moment I'm in my local pub, I've been shopping actually. I always go shopping on a Monday to get my protein . . . there's more protein in there than *inaudiable* you'd ever have.

“So, by the way, Les is coming, Les is on his way, so behave, because Les will kill you.”

He then launched into an unhinged laugh, before adding “goodbye” to finish off. When the appearance was first announced, wrestling fans were . . . stunned, and confused.

One wrote on Twitter/X: “Les Battersby will walk down the entrance aisle at SovPro on February 18th and I have no idea what to expect..." And another posted: “Finally some real competition." One X user even deemed the day a "bucket list" item.

Whether Bruce Jones, 70, will be throwing punches or just there in a commentary capacity, is yet to be seen, but given the amount of protein he had in his Tesco bag, we'd assume he's ready for war.

Tickets for the It's Dark and Hell Is Hot event are on sale from Sov Pro's website, and start at around £16.96 – which seems like a bargain considering a soap legend will be appearing, as will newly-signed TNA Wrestling star Leon Slater . . . just not in the same match, we hope.
