Erling Haaland is increasingly confident of winning his battle to face title rivals Liverpool at the Etihad on Saturday.

The Manchester City sensation withdrew from the Norwegian squad last weekend with an ankle problem. Haaland picked up the injury during Norway's 2-0 win over Faroe Islands last week and was forced to miss the Euro 2024 qualifier against Scotland at Hampden Park.

Pep Guardiola was said to have been less than impressed Haaland was picked for the friendly against Faroe Islands. But Norway boss Stale Solbakken insisted Haaland wanted to play, and that the injury had not been that serious.

Haaland returned to Manchester and has been undergoing intensive treatment on the problem from the City medical staff this week. The striker has been battling a troublesome ankle for several weeks.

But he is desperate to line-up against Jurgen Klopp's men, in what promises to be an explosive showdown between first and second in the table.

Guardiola will give Haaland until the last minute to prove he's fit. And it's understood Haaland is confident of winning his fight to be ready to take on Liverpool.

He plundered an astonishing 53 goals for City last season to help them win an historic Treble. And he has continued his stunning form this season, notching 17 goals in 18 club appearances, including nine in his last six outings.
