ITV The Chase host Bradley Walsh was slammed by fans after making a “shocking” general knowledge confession.

The gameshow front man welcomed four new players to the podium, all hoping to bring home a cash prize against today’s chaser, Mark “The Beast” Labbett. But as the second player of the night, Scottish nurse, Jackie, took her turn against The Beast, she was asked a question about laser.

“In the scientific acronym LASER what does the ‘S’ stand for?” the question posed. Brad immediately interrupted the game to declare that he thought the word laser was spelt with a Z.

“Hang on a minute isn’t the word laser spelt with a Z?” he asked. “why isn’t it spelled with a Z?” Chaser Mark then explained the full breakdown of the acronym – with the S standing for “stimulated”.

Fans at home thought the blunder was “shocking.” “There used to be a theory in quiz shows that a presenter should always appear to know the answer Brad, on the other hand, appears to be incredibly thick,” blasted one fan.

Another penned: “Why isn't it spelt with a Z? Because it never f***ing has, Brad!” A third added: “Gosh Brad can’t spell laser? Shocking.”

The team, consisting of Lee, Emma, Jackie and Richard performed really well bringing an impressive £26k back into their prize pot. They answered only 19 questions correctly and with The Beast being on top form, he quickly out matched them with 14 seconds left on the clock.

Fans were disappointed such a good team performed so badly in the final chase. “No Brad, just no. 19 is not "ok", its shockingly poor for a team of four who scored 26 collectively in their cash builders- plus they had pi*s easy questions,” blasted one fan.

“They’re…… just …. that ….. bit…. too…slow,” penned a second. A third also added: “oh this is awful... They were very slow and wasted time.”
