Saudi Pro League chiefs reportedly want to meet with Bruno Fernandes' representatives over him following Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.

Ronaldo kickstarted a wave of high-profile stars heading to the Middle East when he joined Al-Nassr in January after his controvesial United exit. Since then the likes of Neymar, Karim Benzema and Riyad Mahrez have signed big-money contracts in Saudi.

As well as Nassr, all of their respective clubs - Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli - are owned by the nation's Public Investment Fund, who are already preparing for next summer's transfer window according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti.

And he claims they're interested in signing Fernandes for one of their quartet of teams, placing him on their list of targets with the intention of contacting his entourage to arrange a meeting where they would hold negotiations.

Should it be Nassr, Fernandes would be reunited with Portugal team-mate Ronaldo for club once more. Given he's just 29, it would be a major coup for the PIF.

Most of their signings have been players like Ronaldo who are nearing the end of their careers. It seems highly unlikely they would be able to reach an agreement with Fernandes though.

Not only would he likely reject the move, but Erik ten Hag would almost certainly block his exit. He signed a new contract last year to keep him at Old Trafford until June 2026, with the option of a further year.

Speaking after Fernandes had scored the winner for United against Fulham at the weekend, Ten Hag hailed his skipper. "From the moment I made him captain he did this [win games]," he said.

"Always when he is playing, he is giving energy and setting the example. And you see the way he is pressing, the way he is counter pressing.

"The way he makes recovery runs. He is absolutely the example and he is taking responsibility all the time. On and off the pitch.

"He takes responsibility by scoring important goals but also in how he is always wanting the ball and always wanting to create. I'm happy with my captain."
