A singleton was crushed when a message popped up on their date's phone.

Remaining anonymous, they said: "I was just on a date with a woman and, while showing me a video on her phone, saw she received a text that said 'well, looks aren't everything.' Oof."

The post has been viewed more than one million times – and many waded in with their opinions.

One said: "Rookie mistake. Put your phone in flight mode when showing someone pictures/videos."

A second replied: "God that's brutal." A third joked: "Sorry to hear things turned, ugly."

Others said the singleton could have got the wrong end of the stick though, which would be a positive way of looking at things. One said: "Could have been:

  • 'I look like a potato compared to my date, they're gorgeous.
  • 'Well, looks aren't everything'."

And another agreed: "Perhaps in this context it's flattering:

  • 'This guy is gorgeous!'
  • 'Sure but what are his interests? Is he nice?'
  • ''Who cares with an ass like that!'
  • 'Well, looks aren't everything'."

And a third pointed out: "She might have been talking about the bloke she met before you pal."

Let's hope this is the case! Or it may put the heartbroken person off the dating world for a while.
